Selecting a family law lawyer in your area may be a difficult decision. However, when you do select an attorney, you should be cognizant of exactly how to work with the attorney.
As was discussed in a prior post, attorneys need to work together with clients in every facet of the case. The relationship between an attorney and a client is a special one. Like the relationship between a doctor and a patient, the client-lawyer relationship means that the lawyer is acting is a position of trust with the client.
Many people may not know that lawyers are subject to very strict ethical standards. When it comes to serving the client well, lawyers have to follow many ethical laws. In particular, in every single case an attorney takes, they are required to be competent and responsive to the client. This is required by every jurisdiction’s ethical rules in the United States.
Sadly, many clients often feel that their attorney has not been responsive enough. On the same side of the argument, the lawyer may often be very busy and it is important for the client to respect that fact.
Working with a lawyer should be a relationship that clients and lawyers are satisfied with. Furthermore, lawyers know that it is their ethical duty to provide good, honest, ethical information to all of their clients no matter what the situation. If you are considering hiring a family law lawyer or lawyer for some other matter, you should know that the client is obligated to work with you in a highly ethical fashion.
